SriLankan Airlines is going to increase Hong Kong Flights
Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan Airlines is planning to increase the frequency of direct flights to Hong Kong from the end of October 2018.
The airline was launching the nonstop to Hong Kong from July 2017 replacing the flight UL422/3 which was operating with a stopover at Bangkok. The frequency of the direct flights to Hong Kong was increased up to five weekly to facilitate the passenger traffic between Colombo and Hong Kong. Tourists from Hong Kong do transit at Colombo to fly other destinations in the Maldives and India.
Due to aircraft shortage, pilots shortage, ETOPs, and fuel issues, the airline was reducing the frequency of Hong Kong flights from five to three weekly in the recent months. As per Sri Lanka Tourism report the Chinese tourists to Sri Lanka also have significantly reduced over the recent months.
However, the airline have load the reservation for five weekly flights to Hong Kong in Winter 2018. Currently, the airline is flying three weekly to Hong Kong with the flight number UL892 which departs Colombo at 09:00 and arrives at Hong Kong at 17:10 and the return flight UL893 departs Hong Kong at 18:15 and arrive at Colombo at 21:10. The additional flight UL898 will be resuming the operation from the 31st October 2018 and the Hong Kong flights will be operated as mentioned in the flight schedule below.
Flight schedule have been designed to facilitate Hong Kong tourists to spend time in Sri Lanka in the weekends and to transit at Colombo to access destinations in Maldives and India. The aircraft Airbus A321-200 CEO type of aircraft has been planned to operate Hong Kong as per the airline's inventory system. However the airline is operating mainly brand new Airbus A320-25N NEO aircraft to Hong Kong route to make the tourists to enjoy the brand new cabins and IFE.
The expansion to Hong Kong will be supported by the fourth Airbus A321-25N NEO (4R-ANF) which is due to be delivered to the airline very soon.
